Hey guys, hopefully soon I am going to be getting my new humminbird 597 ci DI HD unit, I was wondering where to mount the transducer at? Here is a picture of the back of my boat. I was thinking that the sponson line would be a good place for it, right by the motor mount. What do you guys think. Also does this unit come with a gps puck or is it internal? Thanks Brian Im sure you can chine in on this.

I'm not Brian, lol, but I can toss my nickel and 2 cents in. I mounted my Transducers on the outside on that lower lip to the right of the drain plug. So it is 1/8" lower than the bottom of your boat. However.. fishing shallow water, it does have a tendency to catch objects and break away (flip up) and then the rest of you day unless if you wanna get wet, its not gonna read right.
Your second option is to mount internally. I wanted to do this but I had too many hoses in the way.

If I ever redo my transducer, I will go this route. The price is not that bad, and u mount it in epoxy I think I read on a post once.
The GPS is internal so no puck mounting ;)
Enjoy!

I can only make a suggestion but I would check with a dealer to confirm. Just to the right of the bunk on the starboard side about mid ways on that section of pad should work pretty good.
OR you could wait until the new Thru-hull transducers are released for the DI units.

I believe you will be able to use the Humminbird "swap program" on these but I haven't confirmed that yet.
Also, the designation "ci" means this unit has an internal GPS receiver.

Thanks, that looks pretty trick. I did see some transducers mounted with epoxy on another site.

Just be careful on mounting it too far out as you want good clean water coming under it, if you run choppy water and get air bubbles you could draw a blank screen for a bit,
