I drove down to Jackson this week and might be doing it alot. Thinking of bringing some rods but wondered about good spots to fish in the area? Ross Barnett is right here but is that the best spot?

I lived in Jackson several years ago and my brother and I fished at Ross Barnet, be careful out in the middle there are some places that get real shallow and stumpy. I would go to the north end and launch there, it has lots of good cut's to fish, lot of B.A.S.S tournaments have been won there from what I have been told.

I have to agree with Fast-J I have fished some of those tournaments on Ross B! Inside deep bends in the main channel hold large numbers of spotted bass(not huge but you find the right hole and you can catch 50). Some of the cuts in the lily pads are as deep as 12-15 feet deep and hold tons of bucket heads! Going north most of the deeper cuts are on the right side of the channel. Also watch the gators!

Wouldnt it be nice to invite all banned fishermen to participate in a T there, all they have to do is swim three laps around it,to be able to qualify to enter.
They might however wonder about those boats about them chumming.
Yeah I know im evil.Id be one of those chumming. And calling my dog hear boy comein get it.
Dont you just love gods creatures

Just stay in your boat and you should be fine. I have delt with a few around here over the years and they keep a distance between you and him.
I had one come upside the boat one year but it was 44 degrees outside, he had no business being out, he could barely move he was so cold, was about a 10 footer, touched him with my rod tip, didn't even phase him!

I did not know they were that far north. And big ones no less. I also had no idea there were spotted bass in Ross Barnett, what river runs through there? I am assuming the spots were there when it got damned up?

Don' t know that kind of history of the reservoir but the name of the river is Pearl.

The Ross Barnett reservoir was initiated in1960 and completed in 1965. It as a average depth of 8 feet. If you go north on RB following the Pearl river run! That is where you will find lots of big bass! The spots are there from the pearl when she ran through there. The pearl was 30-50 ft deep in places. and you can still find 30 foot holes to fish!
Spots make up about 10% of the bass in RB but the further you go north their percentage grows.By this I mean that a major portion of the spots hold in the deeper water along the old river run at the north end of RB. If you want to fish spots I know the baits and colors!
