Finally I got to run one of Buster Dobbs boats.a Challenger the other day. Boat looked very well...I didnt get into all the nooks and crannys but it looked as good as most cookie cutter boats,BUT I will say that sucka RAN and RAN HARD. She was powered by a 130 hammer on a 6" jack. Handled VERY VERY well on semi rough water. Holeshot was very impressive and mid was acceptable but topend for the size and da motor IMPRESSED me to say the least. Layout was very nice and even though it was a dc boat I wouldnt mind havin her in the garage

Yeah the boat scrap yard down in ga had a tunnel hull challenger, kind of a beefy looking hull but suppisdly set the water on fire in its day .Rated for a 150,18 ft.

I don't think I have ever heard of a Challenger? Those little 130 V4 Yammies were some fast little V4's. The 115's are great too just about 2 mph slower.

My first bassboat was a Challenger, a 1974 Mark IV with a 85hp Merc. (15' tri-hull) My mother bought it for me when I was 15 years old (1986) it was my grandfathers boat I grew up fishing in, he took up golf in the 80s and the boat basically sat except for when we went. I run the DOGPISS out of that lil ol boat, it only knew 2 speeds, on the trailer and WAO at full trim lol! There wasn't a spot on Pickwick north of Bear Creek it hadn't been when I got rid of it a couple years later for a 175 Skeeter. That lil tri-hull would POUND you senseless in rough water but it was actually pretty solid and stable as a dock while fishing.

Typical splash of Darris Allison's tri-hull he released in the early 70s.

Yeah Darth they come along way from the boat that RA is talk bout. They have a very sleek lookinh well thought out hull. I didnt get alot of time toplay with this one but I was quite impressed. It was a 17'6" boat dc model. Holeshot was great and she ran to topend in a matter of seconds which by the way was with the 2 of us and 3/4 full tanks hittin 58 with no sweat. Seemed to handle the semi rough water with ease as well.
