Dont know how many of you crappie fish. I do occaisionally. Right now some slabs are being caught in several lakes in the SE portion of the state.

Fishing for slabs right now means shallow water fishing with jigs and shiners 10"s below corks around old pad stems and anywhere there is old vegatation still left.

Get out there and try some crappie fishing. They taste MIGHTY fine with some taters and hush puppies.

I don't fish for them very often. But believe me when I say, they are very good to eat. Like the man said, taters, and hushpuppies. I'm getting hungry just talking about it. lol

I use minnows with an occasional jig

They taste very good, right up there with catfish

Cold weather here is moderating, the sun is got more power and the Crappies are-a-bitin.
We find them in 18 to 20 ft. near a break with lots of vegetation. They suspend around 3 to 4 ft up. They have been hitting a small Northland Forage Minnow. Got my 10 Sun in less than an hour. Fried some last night with lemon breading, tator tots and a salad.
