Propmeister's, I need some advice.

My Brother-in-law is about to pull the trigger on a new boat. He is getting a new Campion Chase 600 Bowrider with a 250HO ETEC. I know its not a bass boat but I thought you might have some ideas.

The manufacturer says the 250HO is faster on this boat than the 300 ETEC. They ran right at 60 mph with a 20" Viper @ 5500 rpms. Time to plane was 2.4 seconds.

What other props (from any maker) would be a good choice? He will give up hole-shot for more top-end. This will be a cruiser/tube puller (for very small kids)

Here is a picture of the type of boat:

It does have a running pad and we will be having it rigged with a 4-6" hyd plate. 25" Shaft motor

Thanks for your help

First off I have to voice my opinion......What is it with all these ETEC HO's running such small props.....I just dont get it............DOes the ETEC have a different ratio then before??????

Anyways Darth ole buddy I was gonna suggest a Renegade..........they are known for picking up some weight and oving it along at a pretty good clip but with everyone saying they are running 24p Raker's on 250 HO's on bass boats and now they are saying a 20p Viper..................it has me VERY puzzled but you can bet I will do some investagtion

Jay, the 250HO ETEC has a 1.71:1 Ratio.

1FAST, The ratio on the 250HO is why they run so well with smaller pitch props. Taditionally smaller pitch props have less slip and don't want to "paddlewheel" as much as a high pitch prop. This is why the Merc Sportmaster is offered with a 1.62 ratio. You can run a loew pitch prop and stay within your rec. RPM's.

Ski boats are not my specialty but to get you started I'm gonna say a 21-22 pitch Tempest, yes Tempest, these prop where originally designed for stern drives.
