PORTABLE BASS BOAT BATHROOM
Posted by BigBass1 on Saturday, April 05, 2008 (08:49:42) (140 reads)

MESQUITE, TX --- Cover Your Bass introduces "The Bassroom" the complete portable privacy system that allows you to spend more time on the water fishing by eliminating those inconvenient moments.

Cover Your Bass is the culmination of research and development from innovators Matt and Kirk Smith, a father/son team of fishermen from Texas, who have created the ultimate portable bass boat bathroom. The Bassroom system fits on most fishing boats.

Aptly named "The Bassroom" this ingenious product fills the need for a portable bathroom system in a market that has been overlooked and neglected for years. With privacy concerns and today's current "eco-friendly" movements, the Bassroom virtually eliminates the possibility of over-exposure from your boat while providing an environmentally safe alternative to lengthy trips back to the loading dock.

"We've created this product to fill a void that currently exists in today's fishing arena" said Matt Smith, owner and creator of The Bassroom. "In today's world you never know who has a camera or video phone and would enjoy the 10 minutes of fame by posting a video of you "caught in the act" on YouTube or similar social network websites. The price, privacy, and function of The Bassroom provides security and comfort for much less than the cost of embarrassment or possible legal fees for over-exposure while on the lake." says Smith.

The entire Bassroom system is stored in a handy transportation bag that can easily be tucked away in your boat until needed. With a total setup time of approximately a minute, you can quickly construct your Bassroom in times of an emergency and leave the unit assembled while you continue fishing or simply fold down and store.

Although created specifically with fishing in mind, the Bassroom is gaining popularity with hikers, campers, bikers, and tailgaters who find the ease of transport and privacy a welcome addition to their trips. The Bassroom can be set up on a boat, the back of a truck, or on the ground - providing a portable bathroom almost anywhere.

"The feedback we have received from customers has shown a wide demographic range from young adventurers to Pro Anglers. The Bassroom is great for privacy, shade and rain shield for the entire family, including pets." says Smith. Customers say the Bassroom is also great to take to tailgate parties and may become the must have
tailgating accessory.

The Bassroom system itself consists of 190T polyester material with access doors on both the front and back equipped with over-sized zippers for easy handling. The polyester is waterproof and flame-proof to assure safety and comfort. The waste disposal bags contained in the full Bassroom system are convenient zip-up bags constructed of a sturdy 2 mil plastic material which effectively and safely handle the waste storage and transporting.

Currently priced at $119.95 plus $10.00 shipping U.S. for the entire system, the Bassroom will provide years of service with proper handling and storage. Visit www.coveryourbass.com for more purchase details, videos, and product reviews from the experts.

Cover Your Bass (www.coveryourbass.com) Home of the Bassroom is located in Mesquite, Texas providing portable privacy for your boat. 1-972-849-4868.

One of the purposes of the Bassroom System is to protect and improve the quality of our waters by providing recreational boaters and anglers with a convenient alternative to the overboard discharge of boat sewage.

Clean water is important to all of us. Two ways for recreational boaters to improve water quality is to stop the overboard discharge of sewage and never use lake
shoreline as a bathroom.

Sewage discharges are unsightly and contain disease causing microorganisms. Bacteria and viruses can contaminate areas used for swimming, skiing, and fishing. The decaying sewage can also degrade aquatic habitats by reducing oxygen levels.

Be part of the solution:
Do not use lake shoreline as a bathroom.
Use the Bassroom System when out on the water.
Dispose of waste from portable toilets and on-board holding tanks properly.
Don't throw anything overboard.
Bring cut fishing line ashore.
Avoid discharging bilge waste into the water.
Be careful in fueling -- try to prevent oil and fuel spills.

3 men arrested in alleged theft ring
Posted by Nightmare on Thursday, August 23, 2007 (08:47:03) (511 reads)

An alleged theft ring was busted and surprisingly, two of the accused are youth baseball coaches. Scottsboro Police arrested three Albertville men over the weekend. They say the men are responsible for breaking and entering more than 30-vehicles parked at boat ramps in Scottsboro and in Marshall County.

Scottsboro Police are in the process of getting $20,000 in recovered stolen property back to its rightful owners, which includes everything from guns to electronics to watches. Since July, 12 vehicles have been broken into at boat ramps in Scottsboro and 20 others in Marshall County. It prompted police to set up surveillance, leading to the arrest of three Albertville men caught red-handed on Sunday.

"Actually caught them in the act of trying to steal some equipment from a truck that was parked. After searching their vehicle, they found tons of stolen property inside the vehicle," says Major Ron Latimer.

Jessie Kevin Dickie, Rodney Preston Hart and Paul Lee Ridgway were arrested, all of them friends. Dickie and Hart are assistant coaches for the Dixie Youth Baseball League in Albertville.

The men were in Dickie's truck when they were caught, and inside that truck was a plaque thanking Coach Dickie for his time and dedication to the White Sox. Police also say the truck's tailgate on it when the men were arrested? Turns out the tailgate was stolen just weeks before at a Scottsboro boat ramp.

Dickie and Hart were also volunteer dads for the 11 and 12 years old youth football team their sons play together in, but now, the dads will have to stick to the stands. They also won't be allowed to coach baseball unless the charges are cleared.

Right now the men are only charged with theft of property and breaking and entering that one vehicle, but of course numerous more felony charges are pending.

Hundreds of trees cut in Monticello Cove
Posted by Nightmare on Saturday, June 16, 2007 (10:34:13) (504 reads)

Daily Tribune - Mount Pleasant, TX June 6, 2007

Hundreds of stumps remain where trees once protruded from the Monticello Cove on Lake Bob Sandlin after the trees were cut down this year. The stumps were once as high as some trees seen along the other side of the cove, which once served as a hot spot for fishermen. One official said the damage cannot be undone.

An untrained eye would think nothing of the hundreds of tree stumps barely protruding from the calm waters in Lake Bob Sandlin's Monticello Cove.

From the lake's shoreline, the stumps - which once provided fish with food and cover - are visible if someone knows what to look for. That's not the case for boats approaching the shallow fishermen's haven, where the stumps often served as a precaution.

In February of this year, Joe Don Setina allegedly took it upon himself to trespass onto the dry lakebed and into Lake Bob Sandlin, both owned by the Titus County Fresh Water Supply District, to cut down hundreds of trees across nearly 40 acres of the cove, located just west of the Monticello Lake dam on Lake Bob Sandlin.

He surrendered to the Camp County Sheriff's Office last month, was arrested, and charged with the first degree felony of criminal mischief.

Monetary damage to the lake is estimated at more than $200,000 according to a complaint filed by Texas Ranger Steve Boyd.

But damage to the fishing habitat, District Executive Director Tommy Spruill said, is irreversible.

"This can't be repaired. There's no repairing something like this," Spruill said. "Once it's gone, it's gone."

Three-quarters of the trees surrounding the cove were cut. One side was left in its natural state.

The district learned of the cut trees in February after a man, who had just visited the cove, reported the damage.

Questions are now floating as abundantly as the sawed-off trees across the cove.

When were the trees cut down and how did Setina allegedly manage to saw hundreds of trees down to the stump, while in the water, without being seen?

The other question - why?

Attempts to reach Setina were unsuccessful.

But perhaps the biggest question is what will be the long-term damage to the lake?

The trees served several purposes, many providing their own ecosystem to fish. The cove, for several decades, has been left in its natural state to provide structure and food for smaller fish.

"The little fish, especially, have to be around structure to survive long enough to become big fish," Spruill said. "And of course, the big fish go into areas like that to spawn and lay their eggs. It takes all kinds of terrain within a lake to have a proper lake ecosystem."

The ongoing drought has caused the lake level to drop more than seven feet below normal. At normal levels, the trees would have protruded anywhere from a few inches to up to 10 feet above the water.

Now, when levels return to normal, the stumps are expected to be submerged in the lake.

Even more of a current concern is the fact that the dead trees were left floating in the cove.

Although Spruill cannot comment on the ongoing investigation, he did say the cove has been closed due to safety concerns. The floating timber could cause problems to boat motors and people.

The trees, Spruill added, also acted as a wave bumper.

Erosion, one of the biggest enemies of lakes, sends sedimentation into the main lake and overtime works to fill up the lake.

The stumps acted as a bumper for wave action.

"In that particular cove it would have less effect than in some areas, but there's always some wave action up in there when the wind is blowing right," Spruill said.

He noted Setina did not have permission to cut down the trees.

"It's like if I go down to Dellwood Park and decide to cut me some firewood. What do you think the city's going to do?" he asked.

Spruill expects to have high resolution aerial photographs of the cove this week to better see damage.

The district is also talking with environmental representatives to conduct studies.

"The effect on lake will be for several years," he said.

District Attorney Charles Bailey will present the charge to Titus County grand jurors later this month. If indicted, Setina faces five to 99 years, or life in prison.

Missouri fisherman's cheating charge makes him an outcast
By Todd C. Frankel — ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

05/13/2007

POPLAR BLUFF, MO. — Back before he was accused of cheating in the bass fishing tournament, before police caught him in an elaborate sting, Gary Lee Jones would drop by Buck's Outboard Motors shop almost every morning. He'd grab some coffee, sit down at the green picnic table with the other regulars, and talk fishing.

Jones, 60, is an avid angler. A divorcé with no family nearby, he sometimes stayed at the shop for hours. He had friends here. So when he placed second in a fishing tournament two weeks ago, the regulars expected he would show up the next morning to crow about it, just as he did after a win the week before.

So, You Want To Buy A New Bass Boat
Posted by BigBass1 on Thursday, May 10, 2007 (11:17:50) (701 reads)

Breathing is rapid, blood pressure high, pulse racing. Do we call a doctor or an ambulance? Is he scared, excited? Has he met the love of his life? The answer to the first question is maybe, the second and third, probably, but this is not boy meets girl. Well, maybe. The relationship between man and his bass boat usually ranks higher than that with his dog and, all too often, with the woman in his life.
Many anglers consider Skeeter to be the originator of the "bass" boat about three decades ago. From its humble beginnings as a 12 foot boat with stick steering and a "big" 20 horse outboard, the bass boat has become a screaming 20 foot monster with 200 horsepower (or more) and capable of speeds in excess of 70 mph. My first boat cost $2300 in 1971. Today's top of the line boats cost more than $30,000.
Once the fever has struck, it may be controlled by prowling around boat shows and showrooms. Alas, as in medicine, the cost of a complete cure is high. Enough beating around the bush, a new boat is a necessity and there are many things to consider.
How much boat can I afford? Although it should be, this is not the first question most ask. A budget, with some flexibility, is necessary. Financing is not that hard to come by these days if your credit is good but, even with a 10 year note, monthly payments will be about $225-250 on $20,000 and $350-400 on $30,000. A word of advice to the "serious" or tournament fisherman. If a 17 foot boat and a 115 horsepower motor is all you can afford, fish out of the back seat for another season. The larger, higher horsepower boats are safer when the wind is blowing 20-30 mph and the waves are running 4 feet. The larger boats have more storage, carry more fuel, and generally provide more angler room and a stable fishing platform, all important considerations for a boat to be used in competition.
There are several aspects to designing a boat package (not necessarily in this order): Basic Hardware, Performance Options, Accessories and Fishability. A good dealer will work with you to fit a package to your requirements. Once the wish list is complete, dollars again become a factor in deciding which options must be cut or changed to fit the budget.

FISHING DURING THE SPAWN -
Posted by BigBass1 on Saturday, May 05, 2007 (20:27:41) (541 reads)

FISHING DURING THE SPAWN -
DOES IT HARM BASS POPULATIONS?
by Jim Porter

If you want to start a long and heated argument among a group of bass anglers, simply ask if fishing should be prohibited during the spawning season. Carry the question a step further in level of detail and ask if organized tournament fishing should be banned during the period. While logic and emotion might tend to make most respondents reply positively to both queries, formal studies indicate that fishing during the spawn, even if specifically for trophies, does not appear to harm the Florida bass populations.

Surveys indicate that anglers have seven general concerns regarding 'bed fishing' for bass:

1. Major, organized tournaments and the attendant professional anglers catch too many bedding bass. 2. Even if 'catch-and-release' is practiced (such as in tournaments), removing the bass from their spawning areas and the stress imposed on the fish will prevent a spawn from taking place. 3. It constitutes 'unsportsmanlike conduct'. 4. Results in over-harvest of the trophy population. 5. The taking of the larger spawning bass gradually depletes the trophy gene pool. 6. It disturbs the spawning site and causes the bass to leave and not spawn. 7. It results in insufficient reproduction and the negative effects on later year group availabilities.
