Haven't had my boat out since Feb but everything ran perfect last time. She's been in the garage with motor trimmed down to allow me to back it in further. Pulled her out today to install my new tag and prep for a short trip tomorrow and saw an oil spot about a 6 inches wide under the prop that smells like gear oil.
Checked the prop, lower unit, fill screw, took prop off and checked shaft seal and interior of hub and nowhere could I find a wet spot or sign of a drip anywhere. Even the bead of grease I had around the prop shaft was still intact and dry. Checked my trim unit, all dry and no signs of any oil or dripping of hydraulic fluid. Spun the prop and it sounds quiet in the gear case. Even loosened the fill screw and sampled the gear oil but it was clean as honey.
Going to take her out anyway since I can't find the source and nothing seems amiss.
Any thoughts of something I may have missed?
