We fished on Lamar Bruce Lake this past Thursday. With the temps running in the high 90's, we were targeting structure close to deep water. The water was pretty shallow up against the bank, and started dropping off about 20 feet out from the bank. After struggling to find fish for a good while, I decided to try a topwater. It was 92 degrees, and the water was 91. I threw a buzz bait up into some shallow cover, and the water all around my bait exploded with waves from fish. Upon further investigation, I found that the bass were bedded in the thick undergrowth right off the bank. You couldn't get close without spooking them. I've never seen bass bed up in such hot water. Even the Ranger we talked to was shocked. We couldn't get them to hit anything. I tried frogs, popping baits, worms, and jigs. But these bass were easily in the 5 to 8 lb range. Tell me what we should have tried.
