I used to quite a bit in rivers for smallmouth, I did best with woolybuggers and Clouser's Deep Minnows. I did catch smaller fish as compared to spin/b-cast but a 16" river smallie on a 6-weight is fun! Still, I think it's the wrong tool for the job. Now I just fly fish for trout and panfish...

I love shakeys! Though I don't use them for deep water like they were originated for. I really like them around docks and dragging through rocky, transitional bottom areas. I typically use the Strike King head and a Zoom Shakey Tail worm.
