Hit the water at 7:30 AM to clear blue skys and cool wind. Felt a little like a coldfront actually. There were very few people on the water so it was peaceful.

We went down the South Canal to the first bend where we caught nothing. Around 9AM we made our way to the Miami canal entrance where we found ridiculous numbers of gar, and picked up about 5 small bass tossing frogs into the pads, and flukes by the rocks. Big gators with no fear of the boat in the area too.

Around 10:30AM we headed back to the Four Corners area and fished where the central canal intersects. Picked up about a dozen more bass on flukes, worms, and a shad colored spinner bait. There were schools of Bowfin hitting the surface like crazy, and one ate my spinner bait. The Bowfin are about 4 pounds average. We also picked up a catfish on a worm. Weird.

We had numerous speckled bass hit throughout the day.

It was hot, we were tired, and at 12:30PM we got off the water.

The bass were hitting on watermelon colored frogs tossed into the heart of the pads, and watermelon flukes fished along the edge. Shad colored spinner baits with big willow blades were getting hit.

As we were leaving we ran into a guide/pro who said they picked up about 100 bass around Sawgrass Expressway on frogs, and near Holiday in the North canal.

Next week: The Big O ...if she has water.
