This fishing report has been generated from the best information available from officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, however, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
Catches of the week

Lake Maloya: Oct. 19, Raymond Muniz of Raton caught a 21-inch rainbow trout. He was using orange glitter power bait.
Elephant Butte Lake: Oct. 23 Joseph Hudson, former POW, Operation Iraqi Freedom, of Alamogordo, caught a 25-inch, 10-pound, 1-ounce largemouth bass. He was using a pearl white fat-free shad Bomber crank bait in 8 to 10 feet of water.

NORTHEAST AREA


CHARETTE LAKES: Fishing was good using power bait and worms for trout. The lake closes for the season October 31.
CIMARRON RIVER: Water flow below Eagle Nest Lake as of Monday was 26cfs. Trout fishing was fair using spinners, hares ears, San Juan worms and salmon eggs. We had no reports from the Gravel Pit lakes.
CLAYTON LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species with very light fishing pressure. The lake closes for the season October 31.
CONCHAS LAKE: Fishing for walleye was slow-to-fair using spoons, jigs and crank baits. The best action was reported by anglers fishing the north side of the lake. Fishing for white bass was slow-to-fair using spoons and jigs. Fishing for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass was slow with a few taken on crank baits, jigs and spinner baits. We had no reports on other species.
COYOTE CREEK: Trout fishing was slow.
EAGLE NEST LAKE: Kokanee snagging was good from boats in the neck area but tapered off from the bank. Trout fishing was sporadic with a few taken on roe sacs, power bait and salmon eggs.
LAKE MALOYA/LAKE ALICE: Trout fishing at both lakes was fair using Pistol Petes and power bait.
MCALLISTER LAKE: Closed due to high golden algae content.
MAXWELL LAKE 13: Trout fishing was fair using power bait, salmon eggs and spinners. Maxwell lakes close for the season October 31.
MONASTERY LAKE: Trout fishing was slow-to-fair using power bait, salmon eggs and Pistol Petes.
MORPHY LAKE: Trout fishing was fair-to-good using power bait, wooly buggers, Pistol Petes and salmon eggs. The lake closes for the season October 31.
PECOS RIVER: Water flow near the town of Pecos on Monday was 49cfs. Trout fishing was fair using worms, salmon eggs, copper john barrs and pheasant tail nymphs.
RED RIVER: Water flow below the hatchery was 63cfs. Trout fishing was fair using wooly buggers, San Juan worms, worms and salmon eggs.
RIO COSTILLA: We had no reports from anglers this week.
RIO GRANDE: The water flow Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 360cfs. Trout fishing was fair on the upper river using spinners, wooly buggers, salmon eggs and night crawlers. We had no reports on other species.
SHUREE PONDS: We had no reports from anglers again this week.
SPRINGER LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
STORRIE LAKE: Trout fishing was slow-to-fair using salmon eggs and power bait.
STUBBLEFIELD LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
UTE LAKE: Fishing was fair using spoons and jigs for white bass and walleye. Most of the walleye caught were at 35-to-40 feet but a few along with some largemouth bass were caught on crank baits in less than 15 feet of water. Fishing was fair-to-good using live bait and stink bait for catfish.

NORTHWEST AREA


ABIQUIU LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
BLUEWATER LAKE: Fishing was fair using power bait, salmon eggs and spoons for trout. Fishing was slow-to-fair using jerk baits and spinners for tiger musky.
BRAZOS RIVER: We had no reports form anglers this week.
CANJILON LAKES: Trout fishing was slow with a just few taken on power bait.
CHAMA RIVER: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 147cfs and 216cfs respectively. Fishing above and below El Vado and below Abiquiu was fair-to-good using night crawlers, salmon eggs, wooly buggers, Rapalas, Pistol Petes and spinners for 10-to-19 inch trout.
COCHITI LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.
EL VADO LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
FENTON LAKE: Trout fishing was slow with just a few taken on power bait and Pistol Petes.
HERON LAKE: Fishing for rainbow trout was fair using roe sacs, power bait and spinners. The kokanee snagging season here does not open until November 13.
JACKSON LAKE: We had no reports form anglers this week.
JEMEZ WATERS: Water flow on the Jemez as of Monday morning was 32cfs near Jemez Springs. Fishing on the Jemez was fair using worms and parachute adams for trout.
LAGUNA DEL CAMPO: We had no reports from anglers this week. The lake closes for the season October 31.
MANZANO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
MCGAFFEY LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
NAVAJO LAKE: Fishing was slow-to-fair using lipless crank baits, spinner baits and plastics for northern pike. Fishing was slow-to-fair using crank baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Kokanee snagging was slow. We had no reports on other species.
RAMAH LAKE: The water level is extremely low. Fishing was slow for all species.
RIO PUEBLO: Water flow near Penasco as of Monday was 12cfs. Trout fishing was fair using prince nymphs, salmon eggs and worms.
SAN JUAN: Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 475cfs. SPECIAL NOTE: Effective September 15, the entire stretch of Quality Waters became Catch and Release only waters. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was fair-to-good using WD40s, San Juan worms, small pheasant tail nymphs, egg patterns, sparkle worms, parachute adams, chamois leeches and zebra midges. Fishing through the bait waters was fair using spoons, worms, salmon eggs, garlic cheese and power bait.
SANTA CRUZ LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
TINGLEY BEACH: Fishing at the Central and Youth ponds was good using Kastmasters, Pistol Petes, power bait and worms for trout. A few catfish were taken on worms. Fishing for trout in the Catch and Release Pond was very good using bead head prince nymphs, San Juan worms, midges, egg patterns and copper john barrs.

SOUTHWEST AREA


BEAR CANYON: Trout fishing was fair using power bait, corn, worms and salmon eggs.
BILL EVANS LAKE: Fishing was poor-to-fair using wooly buggers and poppers for trout, small bass and bluegill. We had no reports on other species.
BURN LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
CABALLO LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
ELEPHANT BUTTE: Fishing was fair using pearl white, white and chartreuse crank baits for white bass and largemouth bass. A few bass were also taken on jigs, small swim baits, spinner baits and tubes. Fishing for striped bass was slow with a few caught on live bait and umbrella rigs. Fishing for catfish was fair using live bait, cut bait, shrimp and liver. We had no reports on other species.
ESCONDIDA LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
GILA RIVER: Water flow on the Gila as of this past Monday was 51cfs. Fishing on the Forks was slow. Fishing pressure was very light.
GLENWOOD POND: Trout fishing was good using power bait.
LAKE ROBERTS: Fishing was slow-to-fair using salmon eggs, power bait, cheese and spoons for trout. We had no reports on other species.
PERCHA DAM: Fishing was slow for all species.
QUEMADO LAKE: Fishing was slow-to-fair using power bait, worms and spoons for trout. Fishing was slow-to-fair using jerk baits and spinners for tiger musky.
RIO GRANDE: Water flow below Elephant Butte on Monday was 34cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.
SNOW LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

SOUTHEAST AREA


BATAAN LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
BONITO LAKE: Trout fishing was slow-to-fair using power bait, worms, salmon eggs and Pistol Petes.
BOSQUE REDONDO: Fishing was slow for all species.
BRANTLEY LAKE: Anglers are to practice catch and release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish. We had no reports from anglers this week.
CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR: Trout fishing was fair using power bait, garlic cheese, salmon eggs, Pistol Petes and spinners.
JAL LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
LAKE VAN: We had no reports from anglers this week.
OASIS PARK POND: Fishing was slow for all species.
PECOS RIVER: Water flow on Monday below Sumner Lake was 1.4cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.
PERCH LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
RUIDOSO RIVER: Water flow at Hollywood on Monday was 9cfs. Trout fishing was slow.
SANTA ROSA LAKE: Overall fishing was slow but there were a few walleye and smallmouth bass caught by anglers using black and red chigger craws in 12-to-16 feet of water.
SUMNER LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
