I've used a tip from a long time friend for years now. Don't know if anyone else does it, but I'll put it out there and you be the judge.

After fishing is over, I learned a unique way to store my rods and reels to keep them from getting tangled together. This only applies to us folks that don't have the nice dividers for our rods to lock into. I take my lure and hook it onto the front bar of the reel. Then grip the line going down to the lure about halfway up the rod. Hold it and twist the rod 3 complete tiimes around. Hook the line your holding over the middle eyelet. This keeps your line tight to the rod, and keeps all the lines from tangling together in the rod storage. Also tightens up on the lure so it doesn't move around. Sounds cheesy, but works very well. Give it a try.
