MEUNIER & HECKEL JIG THEIR WAY TO TOT VICTORY

Kevin Meunier and Kenneth Heckel took the win at the 2016 Triton Owner’s Tournament with a two-day, 6 fish total of 30.62 pounds. The team credited their $8000 win to using a ¾ ounce Strike King Tour Grade Football Jig in green pumpkin color on main lake ledges in 15-18 feet of water. “The bite was very, very slow. I think we had 14 keeper bites in two days. I’d like to thank Triton Boats, Mercury Marine, Vicious Fishing, and Duckett fishing for all of their support during this event,” said Meunier. Heckel caught the 6.50 pound big smallmouth of the event to claim an additional $500 for the team. Meunier also won a new set of Carlisle tires and wheels for sporting a Carlisle decal on his boat while taking the win.

Second place in the 2016 Triton Owner’s Tournament went to the team of Damon Brown and Brad Kell. Their two-day weight of 30.51 pounds was worth $4000. The team targeted main river ledges in 20-23 feet of water using a Strike King 10XD crankbait in Sexy Shad color and swimbaits. “We really appreciate all that Triton Boats does for the anglers at this tournament. Hopefully, next year we will win instead of finishing second. I’d also like to thank American Bass Anglers for running a flawless event and doing a great job with the fish care,” said Brown. The team of Will Nanney and Slayton Gearin caught the 9.00 big bass of the event to claim the $3000 Big Bass prize. The nine pounder came off of a main river gravel bar in around 12-13 feet of water using a ¾ ounce Fishing 45 jig in peanut butter and jelly color. “We really enjoyed the event and we are already looking forward to next year,” said Nanney.

The 17th Annual Triton Owners Tournament began on the evening of Thursday, May 19th. The anglers presented with goodie bags at tournament check-in and were treated to dinner prior to the tournament briefing. Event sponsors provided thousands of dollars in product that was raffled off at the briefing. Prizes included products from Triton Apparel, Mercury Marine, Costa, Lowrance, Duckett Fishing, Star Brite, T-H Marine, Power Pole, Strike King, Vicious Fishing, BoatU.S., Carlisle, and more.

Each morning, the anglers were treated to sausage biscuits and coffee by the Triton Boats staff during boat check. The Paris Landing State Park crew did an excellent job getting nearly 350 Triton Boats in and out of the water each day.

Anglers were greeted each day by Earl Bentz, founder of Triton Boats, as they approached the bump tank at the end of the weigh in line. “It was an honor to see how many Triton owners made the trip from around the country to participate in the Triton Owner’s Tournament. I look forward to seeing everyone again at the 2017 event,” said Bentz.

Several of the Triton Boats professional anglers were present at the event to talk with anglers on stage and in the weigh in line. The touring professionals present included Casey Ashley, Gary Klein, Boyd Duckett, Stephen Browning, Bradley Roy and Keith Poche.
After the final weigh-in was completed, there were more raffle prizes awarded, including a bike raffle for children of the tournament anglers. The greatest raffle prize of all was a new Triton 21 TrX boat with a 250 Mercury Pro XS outboard, Lowrance electronics, Power Pole, and T-H Marine products valued at over $70,000. Meleih Owens of New Boston, TX won the boat raffle. She was presented her new boat by Earl Bentz.

The 2017 Triton Owner’s Tournament will be held on June 1-3, 2017 at Kentucky Lake and launching from Paris Landing State Park.
