Well I worked on things all week to get ready for my two day fishing trip. What a let down. To start off, the local website for the state lake was not very accurate. When we got there I tried to ask the locals what they were catching the bass on. I had to go look in a mirror. You'd have thought I had 3 eyes the way they looked at me. They wouldn't tell us anything. The local Ranger had just gotten back from a two week vacation, so he didn't know what to tell us. So we figured we'd just have to figure it out for ourselves.
Beautiful lake though. Plenty of structure, Lilly pads, and points to pick from. Cold front came through the night before, so we already knew we were in trouble. First morning they were moving pretty good. We tried everything in the arsenal with no luck. Had one explode on the water right beside the boat that was so big, the wave he made moved my little boat. Couldn't get them to hit a thing. Ended up catching 4.
No problem. We'll wait and hit it tonight. No moon, so we prepared for that. Took my brothers bass boat over there for this escapade. Was signing in, when I noticed that they actually had a sign there with fishing times listed. Never seen this before. After reading them, learned that the fishing cuts off at 9:00. So we go back to the house and sit. Good thing he lives 3 miles from he lake.
Get up at 5:00 to go back to the lake. Low and behold his truck won't crank. After doing every diagnosis we could, we determined his starter had died. Waited for the parts house to open and took care of that problem. Too late in the day to fish now so we waited for the evening time to go back.
Back on the lake finally and things are looking up. Shaded coves!! I haul a 3 pounder in on the ol buzz bait within 20 minutes of getting there. Now we're gonna have some fun. NOT!!! We start working the area and are starting to get a few bites, and the trolling motor quits. Couldn't get it working again. Can't use the big motor in this lake. So we took a chance and fired up the biggun to get back to the dock. Loaded the boat and went home. Needless to say the whole two days was a bust. Did find out from the Ranger that the sign was only for bank fishing. Told him they need to paint, " Bank fishing only " in front of those fishing times. So I'm disgusted and back at the house.
