Boat classses:
How many of you know what boat class your boat falls in?
whether you own a 10' john boat or 60' yacht there are federally required equipment you most have on board. This is equipment you may never have to use (I hope that) but if you ever need it you be glad you have it, besides if the marine patrol boards your craft you got a have it or you get a citation and get send back to dock, ruinning your day.
We got four classes of boats:
class-A- This are boats less than 16' long and it covers more than half the recreational boats in the US.
class-1- This are the 16' to less then 26' boats. Over 90% of boats in US are this size or smaller. (could not find out why they don't call this class B)
class-2- This is the class for 26' to boats less than 40' fall in.
class-3- This class includes boats 40' to 65', the realm of the privileged
few,lol.
I don't beleive the coast guard has creat a class 4 yet, but probably will pretty soon, maybe a DT class (donald Trump) or BG (bill Gates) class, Boats longer than 65' feet fall outside the designated "small boat" category and have their own set of requirements.
