Mark Inman of Lefty's Lures reported the bass are holding at depths between 18 and 40 feet around rocky structure and small isolated rockpiles. He has been scoring bass to 3.5 pounds with jigs on a quarter- or half-ounce Arkie or football jig heads or quarter-ounce bullet heads. Six-inch plastics such as the Pro Worms Pro Gold redflake also are working on the drop-shot. Inman advised anglers to bring a fishing needle to decompress the fish if they are reeled up too quickly out of the depths. He also advised a slow and patient jigging motion over the target areas. Ranger Andrew Steele of the US Army Corp of Engineers said the lake was stocked with trout last Wednesday, but so far there has been no word of any significant bite improvement as a result. The lake will be stocked again during the week of Nov. 27. The Eastman Lake ranger staff requests that our fishing community watch out for an unusual aquatic creature. We have received unconfirmed reports of small organisms that look like jellyfish populating some of our coves. If anyone sees these while on the lake, please obtain a sample and bring it to the ranger station so that we can have it analyzed by Fish & Game. The lake is starting to release water, so boaters need to be cautious for hazards, both exposed and submerged. The Lakeview Trail has re-opened between the Codorniz Recreation Area and Raymond Bridge, but the area of the lake extending upstream along the Chowchilla River still is closed beyond the buoy line. The lake dropped one foot to 561.85 feet and 73%.
