Decided to go fishing at Lake of the Ozarks Saturday. I know, crazy, huh? For those of you not fimaliar with LOZ, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_of_the_Ozarks it is the home the Cigarette boat.
Got up and on the water by sunrise, decent fishing till about 10 am then the big boats started showing up. Fishing became a little tougher fighting the waves, but hey, still on the water, right?? Going from cove to cove became a battle, more like putting your life in danger, lol. Anyway, I got the idea of following a big boat, and letting him break the waves so my little bass boat would quit going airborne. So as I was ready to head out to my next location, this big cruiser came by so I sneaked in behind him.
It was nice ride for a while, but hard to keep on plane, as he was only doing about 20, but I managed. When it was time to exit the safe haven of the big cruiser, I had failed to realize how big his wake was until now. Now at the time, it seemed like 5 ft, but probably more like 3 ft. I managed to get over the first one, the second wave pointed me toward the sky pretty good, but when it came down I was just hitting the third and final wake, which submarined the bow and allowed at least 150 gal of water into my vessel and soaked every square inch of my boat, including every square inch of me. Now I am not talking about the spray we get from time to time, but wringing clothes out type. I couldn't had been anymore wet, than if I had jumped in the lake. I looked over and my son's face was in shock, but once he realized he was okay and not going to die, he said "Do it again!! Do it again!!"
It took the bilge about 15-20 minutes to drain the hull back out and took me three hours to dry. We did manage to catch a few, but I can't wait till Labor Day so all these fools go back home
