After water and Coca Cola, coffee is the most popular drink on the planet. Most people have at least one cup of it a day, and plenty of people have several. Whether it be a simple espresso, a caramel, frosted macchiato, or something in between, there is a type of coffee that is perfect for everyone. For a bit of fun and light reading, I've put together a little list of coffee related facts for you...
Ease Muscle Pain: Moderate doses of caffeine have been said to help reduce muscle pain after working out. Runners are known to drink coffee, but now weight lifters have a reason to drink up too.
Keeps The Doctor Away: Coffee has a ton of health benefits. It has antioxidants, can help improve cognitive function, has been said to lower the risk of prostate cancer, and a offers a host of other benefits too. You might as well add it to that apple a day.
The Coffee Maker: Coffee makers have been around for about 200 years. They were pretty different back then though! We're spoilt for choice these days with the hundreds of varieties of them available.
The Decaf Myth: Just like non-alcoholic beer still contains trace amounts of alcohol, decaf coffee still contains small amounts of caffeine. Actually, five to ten cups of decaf coffee contains the same amount caffeine as two regular cups of coffee.
Expensive Coffee Isn't the Best: Time and time again in blind tasting tests, cheaper brands of coffee out perform the expensive ones. So, don't be fooled by the marketing people into thinking that you have to spend a small fortune if you want to taste 'real' coffee.
In Demand: Only oil is traded more often than coffee - pretty impressive, right? That's testament to the fact that coffee is popular literally all over the world. People in Africa and Asia may drink their coffee differently to people in the US and Europe, but they love it just as much, and drink it just as often.
Coffee Bits: Coffee was first 'discovered' in Ethiopia by a shepherd who noticed that his goats looked happier and more excited after eating the berries of coffee plants. He tried them for himself, then shared his new found knowledge with the rest of the village, and the word soon spread.
Coffee Belt: Coffee is grown in lots of different countries, and across a few continents. What each of these places has in common though is that they are nearly all located between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
