well the 2013 season is winding down. its not because i live too far north to fish twelve months a year, its because with a wife and kids this time of year gets pretty busy for me until after st valentines day. halloween, thanksgiving, Christmas, new years eve, youngest daughters birthday, both my anniversaries (thats a story by itself), and st valentines day keeps me pretty tied up so with work and the kids school im lucky to get on the water more than once a month. that being said its time to start reorganizing, cleaning, and repairing as needed all my equipment.
i have a pretty good laundry list of things i need to get done on the boat, most of which ive been putting off for most of this year anyway. 1. one bunk needs new carpet 2. the port trailer fender needs a new carpeted board on the inside 3. new valve on the livewell system 4. bow light socket needs replacing 5. sparkplugs and fuel filter on the motor. trailer bearings need to be repacked
all my reels will get a good basic cleaning and lube job. rods get wiped down with armor-all on the blank. storage lockers on the boat get emptied out, vacuumed out, and repacked neatly with all lures put back where they go. hooks will be changed or sharpened as need.
the biggest chore will be to do a major cleaning on the home office which is the room where i store tackle inside. it is a total disaster and will take a couple of weekends just to get that done.
since my kids didnt need any help with homework i decided i might as well get started. i went through my box of line and really purged my supply. since ive started using florocarbon, and im using more braid, i dont need mono like i used too. i was able to purge about 2/3 of what line i had on hand. since ive got a few props and several reels that are slated to be sold off, ive decided that i might as well just put a nice lot of fishing items together and maybe sell it as a package deal. if its all just taking up space i might as well give the stuff the opportunity to transform it into the new items ive had my eye on and make my wife happy all at the same time. wish me luck lol
