Still learning the ins and outs to the bass boat operations and having issues with getting the boat trimmed out for top speed.

My son and I went out on the river memorial weekend and I was able to get about 45-50 mph out of her per the hummingbird. Then we lost a power pack and it took us forever to get back to the ramp. Last weekend I replaced the power pack and last night a buddy and I hit the river. At first I couldn't get it back on plane but after double checking the install of the pack I found I had crossed plug wires, back on plane but now only 40-45 mph.

If I trim up to much, cavitation takes over, I drop the motor back down and it acts like its still in a cavitation state. Let the boat boat fall off plane and bring engine to an idle and then start fresh everything is good????

I'm sure a lot of this is just lack of experience in a bass boat!

Can someone give me a clue to how to better run this style of boat?
