Was lurking around this morning while drinking some coffee and found Gonefishing's thread on the SONARPHONE.
At first I was skeptical because one of the first things I do when I get on my boat is put the phone in a Ziploc bag and place it under the seat with the volume off. The last thing I want to do when I am fishing is check email or text messages! I am one of those that constantly look at their phone all day long due to my work and personal life, but when I fish I don't want to see it! However, with this new technology, I may have a reason to keep my phone out. My Samsung Galaxy S has a pretty large screen that would be perfect for fish finding. In addition, most smartphones have GPS built into them. This is a no-brainer when you think about it. I will be watching this technology very closely.
I have always wondered why fish finder displays have seemed to lag behind all other technologies requiring a screen. Seems like I am firing up the old Nintendo 64 every time I turn on my fish finders. I understand part of this is to keep costs down, but still, we should have better displays without paying through the nose!
Thanks again for the share Gonefishing, gave me something to muse over for a while before getting ready for work this morning.
