I spent 3 hours today under the console of my champion swappin out tach's. I ran my boat a few weeks ago on Lake Hudson (OK). Trying out different props. Backed my rig in and as usual... Busted right off. Warmed up and idled out to the point of WOT. jumped her up, tach quit at 2000. I went ahead and ran. Came back in and trailer'd out. Swapped props (to the Hoss Triton OHE) and check out my tach as well as the wiring on my rectifier. Glenn backed me in and the tach worked for a minute or two. I took off... hit 5000r's and guess what. It quit. I went a head an pushed her a little with my tach showing 900r's ran 72.8. Gave in to the fact that my 2.4 is a chromed sleeve block and put it on the trailer. Needless to say after installing 2 new teleflex tach's then a 8000 livorsi that still quit at 2grand I got pissed. Finally I pulled the Rectifier off a completely rebuilt 2.0L that was barely broken in. popped it on my engine and bam. Problem solved. I pulled the water hose out in a fit and fired her up. Works like a champ. I had a feeling to begin with it wasn't the tach, having said that my engine battery still stayed hot, not to mention the voltage gauge always showed active. Has anyone else had this issue? I have rebuilt many engines and have dealt with a bunch of electrical issues. Never have I seen a simple issue like this. A rectifier that charges but wont show R's over 2000. UGH. :wallbash:
