LAKE LANIER IS DOWN 3.4 FEET, CLEAR AND 83 DEGREES.

Spotted bass fishing is fair and there is some top water action. The
fish are biting suspending jerk baits like the Mc Stick, Fish Head
Spins and small top water baits like small Spooks or a Sammy 85. Also
the DT6 Rapala crank baits in shad are working. Cast these baits right
on the bank, structure or not and crank them 5 times and stop. Also
work main lake or creek points. The 5 inch Red Fin in any color and
the Zoom Super Fluke in pearl can take these fish all day. The points
in Little River from markers #4 all the way to the back of the creek
has been good and stay on the left bank. All white or white ice Super
Flukes skipped in, under and around docks will work too. The 5 inch
Red Fin in any color and the Zoom Super Fluke in pearl can take these
fish all day. Remember; keep moving cover a lot of water especially up
lake this week. The fish are all moving all day and night as they feel
the water cool down and the days getting shorter. Down lake, go to the
creeks like Two Mile Creek and fish half way from the back to the
mouth of the creek. We do see spots suspended on and around the deeper
point’s right across from the Vann’s Tavern ramp. Spend some time
working docks also with the jig and also use a Zoom u tail worm and a
Zoom Bush Hog in pumpkinseed. The Texas rig and a 3/16 ounce sinker
will work but peg the sinker or use a Spot Sticker style rig. .

The temperature has gotten hotter and so has the fishing. The mornings
are starting off cool with a water temperature in the low 80's warming
to the mid 80's in the afternoon. Lead core at 9 colors trolled from
the mouth of Flowery Branch to the Dam is working and should continue
to work until the weather turns. Be prepared for a big crowd if you go
out this weekend. If it floats it is pulling lead core. We see 30 foot
vessels, sail boats, bass boats and 10 foot flat bottom boats with 5
hp motors pulling lead core. There is also two striper clubs holding
tournaments this weekend. Umbrella rigs 150 to 160 feet back and down
riggers at 33 to 35 feet are also working. If you find fish strung out
one here one there at 40 feet that will not bite, do not spend a lot
of time trying to get them to bite. Fish under them or move to find
fish that will bite. The down rod bite has slowed a little with fish
coming off the bottom and looking without eating. Keep your baits
fresh and moving by power reeling. There are still some smaller fish
being caught in pockets with down rods over a 60toto70 ft. bottom and
with Umbrella rigs at 120 feet back. We use a one oz Captain Mack's
chipmunk jig with white and chartreuse trailers on all my trolling
rigs. However, do not hesitate to use different combinations of jig
sizes and trailer colors. It still white trailers all week.

From The Forsyth County News: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans
to close the scenic, winding section of Buford Dam Road that straddles
Lake Lanier for about a month this fall. The 2to mile stretch will be
shut down from October 4 to November 5 for a replacement project, said
Lisa Coghlan, spokeswoman for the corps' district office in Mobile,
Ala. "There's no detour," she said. "That's the only bridge going
across the dam and we're going to close two lanes”. The corps looked
into leaving one lane open during the construction, but Coghlan said
it was "just not safe”. During the closure, east west travelers
crossing the dam on Lake Lanier can take Hwy. 369 on the lake's
northern end or Hwy. 20 to the south. The U S Army Corp of Engineers
is one of three government entities doing work along Buford Dam Road
in the coming months. The city of Cumming and Forsyth County also have
projects. The county's project is twofold. It will add turn lanes
where the road crosses Samples and Lanier Beach South roads, as well
as straighten out the "severe angle" at which the streets meet.
