At the risk of sounding extremely silly, or just plain ignorant. A piece of terminology I've heard around the forum is puzzling me. I ask please, what is meant when a Johnson or Evinrude motor is called a "looper?"
I worked in marine mechanics from 76 to 81 and never heard this term. Of course, as I've said I've been out of things for a while. I'd just like to know what the term means so I better understand things and info I hear around the forum.
Also, my Evinrude is an 88 XP 200 HP. I was hoping for some info on my gear ratio (lower unit looks original), and the size of my engine (2. ?? L., or 3.0 L.)?
