When the Fishing Report was filed last week, ice covered most of the lake. Thursday, 2/20/14, the temperature climbed to nearly 70 with a 52 mph wind from the southwest and the ice literally melted in front of your eyes, opening most to the lake to weekend fishing. Now, this week has endured night temperatures below 32 degrees which could refreeze some coves, so this report relates to open water, where it is found.
The lake has reached its winter drawdown level of 654.0 so the lake should hold at this level until spring. Surface temperature at Bagnell Dam was 39 degrees; tributary temperatures were 32 to 35 degrees.
Anglers should use extreme caution around launch ramps, the shoreline, and boat docks. Take precautions to prevent accidental immersion and possible hypothermia.
