Mark’s Bait-Tackle and Ammo Auctioning Out Inventory

After nearly a quarter of a century, Mark’s Bait-Tackle and Ammo of Ravenna, Ohio, is saying “one last cast”. Mark Burkey’s passion-turned-business had humble beginnings, starting with a table of fishing lures in his garage. After 8 years of that, Mark’s Bait & Tackle moved into a rented unit next door for two years before spending the next 14 years at the current location on State Route 14. There, he opened the shop from dawn to dusk, selling fishing tackle, bait, ammunition, and other general goods every day, except for two days during those 14 years.

Keeping up with that schedule has taken its toll, with Mark having to make many sacrifices over the years to keep the bait & tackle running. After trying to sell the business whole for several years with no takers, Mark shuttered the doors for good back in June, and is now putting everything in the store up for auction.

“It’s breaking my heart. It’s bittersweet. I’d love to sell the building, but I want it to stay the same because of the time and effort I put into it to get it to this point,” – Mark Burkey

All of the items inside the tackle shop are being sold now through an online auction. This includes all of the thousands of fishing lures, terminal tackle, rods, reels, as well as the display racks and other odds and ends inside. So if you are looking to grab some bulk tackle or maybe even get some display racks for your own tackle shop, the online auction starts on Wednesday, September 10th, and will go on till Wednesday, September 17th.

If you are interested in bidding on the tackle, click here. And for Mark, we wish you the best and hope retirement lets you get on the water more.
