I have a 1984/85 Mercury 150 XR2 I am looking for 35 to 50 more horespower. Supposedly it has high compression pistons and I know when I built the carbs the jets are way larger than factory. I want to start over.
1. What cylinder psi would factory have and what numbers should I be looking for with supposedly dome or high compression pistons?
2. How can you tell if I have factory reeds or high performance?
3. What about lightening the crankshaft?
4. Balancing flywheel, rods, crankshaft and pistons?
5. Changing gear ratio in foot?
6. Boring cylinders oversize?
I must stay with the 150. I am very mechanicly inclined and willing to spend a couple of thousand to get these results. This is my first post and I am hoping to make many new friends and learn some exciting ideas from here.
