Not sure about other states, but in Mississippi we have numerous lakes tucked away inside the National Forest. I have a local bait shop that has a map you can purchase with these lakes on it. Most of these lakes are equipped with boat ramps. I have fished many of them in my Ranger. There are many though that can only be fished by a little boat being launched from the bank. You can sometimes find a Forest Ranger that can tell you which lakes offer the type of fishing that your looking to find. These lakes are well worth the effort of getting in because they hardly ever get fished. You may be amazed at what you find. There is an abundance of good bass, bream, and crappie to be found this way. And you can always find large catfish. The good thing about these lakes is normally you'll have the whole lake to yourself. With a good depth finder you can find some very good action. I very seldom go to these lakes by myself, just because they are so far off the beaten path. Never know when something may happen. Take the time to check your local forests lakes out. You may be pleasantly surprised at what you find!!
