I've gotten quite a few motors in over the past few years that have some serious play in the swivel bracket. They all looked like they haven't been lubed since they came out of the factory. It's very important to grease those fittings at least once a year preferably in the fall. This does 2 things. One obviously is it lubes those upper and lowers and the second is it pushes out trapped water that will cause a failure over time.
For all you foks that have sea star steering there is a fitting behind that steering cylinder that goes unseen. It's a pain to get a grease gun in there but it needs to be done.
