I don't mean to step on any toes, but then, yes I do. I have a personal friend of mine that has a boat that is max rated for a 150 hp. He changed the emblems on his motor, and put a 175 on it. Not only is it too big, but a fisherman cannot stand on the back of the boat to fish, without the boat dipping under water. That's how bad out of balance it is.
Now I've seen a couple guys on here talking about putting bigger motors on their boats. Not saying that their going over their rating, so don't get wound up. Just saying that rating is there for a reason. Not only is the transom not built for it, but the hull probably isn't either. Take care folks and enjoy your boat. Be safe.
