This is one lake that I'm going to try my best to fish a lot this year. The lake itself is huge, and you can fish it with Ms., Ala., or Tn. license. I never got to go there last year because I always ended up going to Bay Springs. Pickwick is known to be one of the top Smallmouth lakes in the country. They also are known for some of the best Tenn. catfishing available. They hold a lot of local tournaments on this lake, so if you go there, might want to be aware. There's plenty of places to put in, but the lake usually has a lot of traffic on it due to the summertime skiers, tubers, and just general public. There are also numerous houseboats, and what I call yachts on it. You will have to put up with the occasional barge coming through from time to time. But if you're looking for a place to take the family for an all out good time, this is one place you need to check into. They have numerous camp grounds, and swimming areas are abundant. I myself can't wait to get into the smallmouth there. They have many different species that you can fish for. Largemouth, Smallmouth, Sauger, Bream, Pike, Yellow Perch, Catfish, Crappie. If you're not into getting out in a boat to fish, head down below the dam and fish there. Make sure you have a Tennessee license below the dam. Once you hit that river, you're not legal with any other license. The beauty of this lake is astounding. You can see beautiful coves, sheer rock cliffs, sandy beaches. So if you're looking for a new lake to try out this year, give Pickwick a try. You will not be disappointed. As always, we here at BBM try to give you ideas on new places to try, and hope we do a good job of it. Give us your opinions, and ideas on how we can better serve our members and be sure to join in on the fun.
