my oldest daughter and i went out for a couple of hours this morning (came in when she decided it was time for a sandwich). i had marked some fish in a channel between two rock ridges in the lake and since i wasnt catching anything with my usual tactics i decided to pull out an a-rig and rip it up off the bottom like stroking a jig. now given the heavy duty nature of fishing one, i fish my a-rigs on an ugly stick i have for striper fishing and an old abu garcia 5500. now after a few casts the reel started re-engaging in mid cast. the fourth time it did this the knot line popped right at the knot. off the into the middle of the cove went my expensive rig. i thought that there was a slight chance that i might be able to get lucky and drag it up with the drag line i keep in the boat just in case someone looses a rod overboard. we headed to the area where it went down and as luck would have it i could see the rig lying on top of the ledge in about 6 feet of water. true i didnt even really need the rod drag to get it back at that point, but if i hadnt had it in the boat with me i never would have even looked for it. thats one tool thats always in my boat every time i go out :drunk:
