Rule #1 My biggest pet peeve is when a poster wants an answer to a specific question and fails to give his motors model number and serial number. The serial number I can live without unless the motor is still under warranty. The model number is a must. As there may be subtle changes made mid year to address a problem and a Tech Bulletin has been published. To find your model number look on the port side of the mounting bracket it will be near the top on in the middle of the bracket it will be a green tag. The tag will read EorJXXXYYYYY where X=the horsepower of the engine. YYYYY will be letters that when decoded will give the model year, type and production run. The E is for Evinrude and J is for Johnson. Some times there is a letter before the E/J that indicates that the motor was made for a boat manufacturer.
