Tho this is not directly a boat question, it does involve my shopping for a new-to-me boat rig. It is amazing how many V-6's of ALL mfg'ers are listed as "just totally rebuilt", or "low hours since major overhaul". If motors are so prone to major work needed at higher hp maybe this should be a qualification of shopping to look for "rebuilt". The other thing of note is how many post the compression readings across the cylinders. Tho this is not as good as a leakdown test it does give a good condition of cylinders and rings and I think is critical to purchase of used motors.

Even used an older boat in very good condition is a big investment for most of us and with the cost of new motors more than I paid for this house we live in concerns of motor longevity do come into play.

What say you? Nick
