The 1st time I ever fished Big O, I was taken there by a BASS Megabucks Champion with his 18 ft Cobra Bass Boat and he had just won the $50,000 tourney on the Potomac. I was 16 YO and he was a family friend. On the way we stopped at a little roadside shack for breakfast at 4 AM. It had a tradition that any new visitor had to pin his hat to the ceiling. There were like 300 ball caps up there and I had just got my new ABA, now defunct, (American Bass Association) cap and was so proud to feel like a pro but I pinned it up there anyway.
My guide told me he ordered breakfast for the trip and never asked what I wanted. As we got back on the road to Clewiston where Roland Martin's is located, I opened my sandwich to find 2 pieces of buttered toast, 2 fried eggs, not scrambled, with mayo and lettuce & tomato. I was grossed out at first but when I tasted it I was hooked. At 4 AM before my fishing trip of my life I think a sardine sandwich would have worked.
I recently read an article that most of the pros in a survey said they eat PB&J but this was so much better than that and donuts.
That little shack is long gone along with my cap but still to this day, when I plan a Big O trip I make those sandwiches to eat on the trip up. I always get weird looks from whoever I'm bringing that day but they soon eat it up and with a hot cup of strong coffee, I've never had any complaints. Just thought I'd share since it came to mind as I am planning a trip with Lause3 soon. No pastalitos or cuban sandwiches for you!
