Turkey Frying

thanksgiving is around the corner and I have been deep frying turkeys for the last few years. Its a real mess with the oil so I was thinking about trying out one of the infrared or electric turkey friers. Anybody tried these and do they work? It seems alot safer than a big vat of hot oil over an open flame with a propane tank while some drunk cook (me) hovers around it.
