I live by a 4500 (at normal pool) acre reservoir and just a few miles from a 900 acre no wake motor restricted lake (big motors over 10hp are only allowed to be used from Sept. 8 through May 20th) I won't go into this because it is the only one of it's kind in Iowa and really pizz's me off. Any way these lakes are full of gizzard shad which therefore has become the main forage for bass. When smaller lakes, less than 500 acres start to become infested with shad the DNR will either drain the lake, depending on size, or try some type of chemical to get rid of the shad. They will and have desimated blugill populations and also effect crappie since they compete for the same food.
So, what do the fish eat in your lakes?
