KIMBERLING CITY, Mo. (March 12, 2014) – FLW College Fishing is headed to Table Rock Lake March 22 for the first Central Conference tournament of the season. Up to 50 college teams will be competing for a top award of $2,000 and a berth in the 2014 Central Conference Invitational.
“The last week of March may be the best time to go to Table Rock all year long,” said Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts pro Greg Bohannan. “The fish will not be on the beds yet and they’ll be feeding heavy getting ready for the spawn. The last week of March is probably the best week to fish any of the Ozark lakes. Some of the heaviest weights of the year will come this time of year. Year in, year out, the last week of March is my favorite time to fish in the Ozarks.”
Bohannan said that although the harsh winter had set the fish back, it should only make the fishing better. He said that water in the high 40s and low 50s typically produces some of the biggest weights of the year on Table Rock.
“I would be looking for the last deep banks in the creeks,” explained Bohannan. “Or bluff ends in the main lake, or stained water up in the river arms. They’ll be biting a Storm Wiggle Wart, an umbrella rig and a jerkbait really well. If I was a college guy I’d keep it really simple. I’d have those three baits on my deck and maybe a finesse jig like a Bass-X jig in case you get a really slick, sunny day.
