LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 7.7FEET CLEAR AND 74 DEGREES BY MATT DRIVER

Bass fishing is great and things are changing daily due to the temps reaching the point that the lake is beginning the turn over. Fishing during this bi yearly phenomenon slows for a couple of week due to dissolved oxygen level not being less than desirable. During this period we like to slow down and it also seems that shallow fish are affected less. The feed up is in full swing. There are lots of bass shallow or in the top of the water column lake wide. Buzz baits are good but for the numbers this week, go to the Spro McStick jerk bait to load the boat. Use a pretty quick retrieve with a short pause between jerks. Points and Secondary points are great places to start with this technique and wind is a big help. Shallow square bill cranks with brown and chartreuse are great. We are still using baits like the Big Bite Jerk Minnow weightless or on a ½ ounce Fish Head Spin ready for sudden action. The jig head bite is great also using a 1/8 ounce jig head tipped with a Big Bite 6 inch squirrel tailed worm or a green pumpkin Yo Mama with the tail dipped chartreuse. Keep it in contact with the bottom and hit all visible cover.

Line side fishing is good. The better fish are still out over the river channel. And the schoolers are up shallow and can be caught off points, humps and flats. The lake is still in turn over and the fish are on the move. This week I have caught good numbers Stripers and Hybrids out over the river channel fishing 40 feet deep with live bait, and then again pulling umbrella rigs on a 18 foot bottom. The fish that are out over the river channel seem to be on the bigger size. But the ones that are up shallow are more willing to eat. Trolling the umbrella rig bite is probably the best over all bite. But look for these fish to be on the smaller size. This week we have been pulling my rigs 75to 80 feet behind the boat on a 16 to 20 bottom. These fish are on the move. So make sure you cover a lot of water. We caught fish as far north as the S turns this week all the way south to the dam. Top water bite is dead and we have seen very limit top water action this week. And most of it seems to be spotted bass. Look for the top water bite to pick up after the lake finishes turning over.
