LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 7.7FEET CLEAR AND 71 DEGREES

Spotted bass fishing is good but the fish are a little hard to pattern. Millions of shad are coming up around the lake in creeks, coves, and pockets. Some fish are cruising shallower and relating less to the brush piles. Try top water early on main lake points, humps, and deep banks. Twitch a Lucky Strike Sammy 100 in American Shad or throw the 3/8 ounce. Boogerman buzz bait, white with bronze blade. The key all summer for top water was to be there early, especially on sunny days. Now the bite is lasting longer and fish are shallower. Work on back into those coves and creeks off the main lake. As the sun gets up switch to the Zoom Super Fluke in white pearl. No need to be an expert Fluke fisher, just toss it out there and the fish will take care of the rest. Also now is the time for those mid depth crank baits. Norman Deep N or Middle N in Tropical Shad and Lavender has been producing well during the day. Use the crawdad colored crank baits, The spinner bait bite normally is in gear now but it’s sporadic. Try the Allatoona Special color in the Mini-Me spinner bait. As the last of the light fades the fish are dropping back down, often to brush. Pick up a Texas rigged Zoom finesse worm, green pumpkin is best and fish the brush. Lastly, drop shots are the answer if you can’t find them shallow especially if temperatures rise again. Look for smaller balls of shad at the mouths of creeks and coves on the main lake. Use your Lowrance to find them. Look a little closer and a lot of quality fish will be stacked from 19 to 30 feet deep. Try a white and silver .6ounce Flex It spoon or put a drop shot with a watermelon red Zoom Meathead worm in the middle of them.

Line side fishing is good. The fishing is the best we have ever seen in October. The better fish are still out over the river channel and the schoolers are still up shallow and can be caught off points, humps and flats. The lake is still in turn over and the fish are on the move. This week we have caught good numbers stripers and hybrids out over the river channel fishing 40 feet deep with live bait, and then again pulling umbrella rigs on a 18 foot bottom. The fish that are out over the river channel seem to be on the bigger size. But the ones that are up shallow are more willing to eat. Trolling the umbrella rig bite is probably the best over all bite. But look for these fish to be on the smaller size. This week we have been pulling my rigs 75 to 80 feet behind the boat on a 16 to 20 bottom. These fish are on the move so make sure you cover a lot of water. We caught fish as far north as the S turns this week all the way south to the dam. Top water bite is dead and we have seen very limited top water action this week and most of it seems to be spotted bass. Look for the top water bite to pick up after the lake finishes turning over.
