AKE LANIER IS DOWN 3.4 FEET, CLEAR AND 73 DEGREES. By Ken Sturdivant

Bass fishing is fair and there are a lot of patterns and lures that are working. With the weather changing and the full moon, the spots are moving around up and down the water column with the turnover in place. This is a good tome of the year to go to all the baits you like. Top water is fair, Crank baits are fair. Jerk baits are fair and the shakey head is fair. So pick some lures out of the box and head to the main lake points, docks and even the up lake creeks. Spotsticker jigs with a Zoom finesse worm on a spinning reel and 8 or 10 pound test has been working all week. One trick on the soft plastics is to dip the tail in clear garlic. Drop shot rigs are accounting for good sized spots and this is an easy rig to use. Just be sure to keep your line tight while fishing the baits. Zoom finesse worms in green pumpkin will work all day in the sun or if it is cloudy. Use a Texas rig with an3/16 ounce sinker and work the rocks and brush on the main lake points. Try a Fat Free Shad crank bait or a Sebile Swimmer in shad patterns and work the points.

Striper fishing is slow. Last week was crazy for this time of year. The lake has not turned over past the 44 feet level and the thermocline remains locked in at that level. The fish moved back over the river channel this week. We actually found and caught fish this week over the river channel below Browns Bridge with lead core at 9 to 10 colors. This is an August pattern. The only thing that is going to get us out of this rut is colder temperatures. We were wrong last week when we said to put up your lead core. We have never seen stripers move back over the river channel in mid October. The fish are moving and you have to check the lake from 50 to 120 ft bottom from Browns Bridge to the dam. You also have to carry every rod you own and be prepared to use every method from free lines to lead core. We are all going to have to be flexible as the lake sets up for a hard turnover.
