Anybody have an idea of what it'll cost to replace a tilt/trim unit on a 2000 Yamaha 3.1 Vmax 225 ox66?
I had the seals done a year ago and its run out of fluid a few times but worked when I filled it up. Yesterday about 10 from the ramp it trimmed itself all the way down and wouldn't come back up ,four hours later I got back to the ramp and got the motor raised enough to pull it out of the water, then 2 more hours and i got it up enough to slip the mywedge over the shaft and start the 10 hour drive home. When I got back I raised it up enough to fit the old style transom saver on. The rod the mywedge sits on was pushed all the way in the cylinder and the cap is a little beat up from the motor bouncing around 'cause the hydrulac's weren't working.
So I think it probably needs replacing. ?'s- can I do this myself? What does the unit go for and where could I get one? If its better for a mechnic to do it whats a ballpark figure to get it done?
