Trolling Motor Upgrade, Help.

I currently have a 43lb troller on my 18.5' G3. Yammy 115 on back (for weight info). I know there is no substitute for power, but how much better performance will I get going up to a 55lb motor? This is as big as I can go and still stay 12 volts.

And if I do decide to upgrade to a 24 volt system, I will have to change the wiring, right?
