Tried a new spot over the weekend called Aerojet located around 10 miles south of Florida City right off US1. Definitely a different world from the Florida Everglades but I wanted to try it out since we have a tournament there in 3 weeks. The flood gate at the end of the 6 mile run produced some bass (5 in 15 minutes to be exact). Could have stayed there longer but wanted to explore the other 6-7 miles of shoreline.

No pads whatsoever to flip to and bass did not like top water action like the Everglades bass do. Overall we caught probably 20-25 bass, mostly largemouth and 2 peacock bass. Most were pretty small, in the 8-13 inch range but we did manage to land one good whopper weighing in over 4 lbs.

Top baits for the day were definitely soft plastics. I would say 99% of the bass caught were on skinny dippers, EZ swimmers, definitely flukes over grass beds, and of course plastic worms and lizards bounced slowly off the bottom. Crankbaits, poppers, and stickbaits were skunked out for the day. Definitely an interesting and different day of fishing. Oh yeah, the horseflies were pretty annoying for a good part of the day! Not a bad spot but could have definitely used some more visual cover other than fishing grassy areas.
