building a raft

Hey guys, want to built a home made raft. need ideas and plans if any of you knows of something. right now I'm thinking pvc pipe with plywood as surface, want also to put a mast for sail, no idea in material to use, mast will be either aluminum tubing or pvc pipe as well, gonna make it 12' to 16' not sure yet by 6' to 8' also not sure want it to be for 5 to 7 people thinking 3 on each side with oars and one at back for sail and tiller, if five will be 2 on 2 and one on back. keep those ideas coming, this is for a five mile race on a river that can be mean, boat waves and wind, raft needs to handle 2 foot waves at minimum. keep those ideas and plans coming, need to have all completed and tested y early August.
And no I'm not going crazy... well it depends on who you ask, but this is for a good cause.
