I have a 1992 Mercury 175 EFI XRi outboard that loses power intermittently. It starts okay, but sometimes when I idle for a long way, like when I'm idling out past no wake buoys, when I give the gas it acts like it's only running on half the cylinders and can't get on plane. If I just hold the throttle down it will eventually clear out and run fine. Most times it will run fine for the rest of the day. The last time out it lost power while on plane, and almost stopped, but then the power came up and it went back on plane and ran okay for the rest of the day.
Any Mercury mechanics out there who may have seen this before and can give me some ideas? I've had the boat at my local marina to check it out for 3 weeks, but so far they're not having much luck. They checked compression, fuel flow, spark, fuel pump pressure and all checks out okay.
