Although Nevada is widely known as a dry state, it is home to over 200 lakes and reservoirs and 600 streams Sand rivers, which provide nearly 400,000 surface acres of sport fishing opportunity.

Nevada is a land of contrasts, from high alpine lakes in Elko's Ruby Mountains to desert lakes such as Walker Lake near Hawthorne. The majority of Nevada's fishable still waters consist of man-made reservoirs that vary in size from one acre to the 115-mile-long Lake Mead.
