NY bass fishing can rival the best in the country. Plan your next fishing trip in this state, bring the whole family and enjoy a vacation of a life time.
Come and stay in the Hudson Valley area so you're within reach of the entire state. Charlie and I live in this area and i'm sure we can share our fishing holes as well as team up and do some fishing with you too.
Hudson River bass are strong, big, and fighters, so you better be on top of your game or you'll loose the battle Tthis river has a set length limit of 15" and our last club tournament yeilded a weight of 20+ pounds bag. If you give a chance to this fish they will brake off, and trust me they will. Nonethless it is worth it, since you get to experience fishing two tides, and you get a couple creeks to choose from if thats what you like.
Within a few minutes you get great creek fishing like in the Fishkill creek, Wappingers creek, Catskill creek and my favorite the Roundout creek to mantion only a few.
Fish all morning and than stop in one of the many restaurants you will find along this great river and in the creeks for a fine lunch or diner. You have many ramps to choose from to launch your boat for free in this area. It's all a matter of location, but if you got a 200 to 250 hp motor don't really matter cause you can cover a lot of water, no speed limit in most of the main channel of the river.
Take a ride all the way to NY city and you get views only a few get to see in their lifetimes. If you decide to go around Manhattan pay special care while negotiating "Hellsgate", trust me there's a reason for that name, go around the Statue of liberty and shut off your engine for a moment, pay tribute to the meaning of this magestic lady, on way up river look to your right and check out the Palisades. Again go near shore and you realize how small humanity is in comparison to mother nature.
On land, you can devote a day to your family go to NY city and there's an endless number of activities your family can engage in, like visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Natural History Museum, Museum of Modern Art, the USS Intrepid, and Tmes Square. See a show at Radio city, Madison Square Garden, or Broadway, and last but not least stop by 'Ground Zero Memorial' and pay respect to those who fell on 9/11.
Back to the Upper Hudson Valley, you can visit the West Point Academy, founded in 1778, it played an active role during the rRvolutionary War. You can visit the museum and on it's bordering shores there are still remains of a chain that was spread across the river to stop british ships that would attempt to invade via the Hudson.
Farther North you pass the city of Kingston. This city was once the capital but it was burned to the ground by British troops. Settled in 1651, this city has the oldest building open to the public in it built in 1680. The Kingston waterfront is always very active either with music or shows going on (very commum are car and bike shows as well as festivals.)
Now that your family had some fun too lets go bach to fishing. If your a multi-species fisherman you got the Striper run up the Hudson, you can follow these fish all the way up to the Dam in Troy. The Stripers bring anglers from all over the country in fact a few years ago a 53 pound stripper was caught from shore at the base of the Kingston/ Rhineback bridge.
If you rather stick with bass you have many prime lakes to chose from, like Lake George (lots of activities for family as well), Great Lake Champlain, 10,000 islands, Lake Oneida, the Great Lake Erie, (I'm sure you heard about this one before) and Lake Onandaga, (a small bowl-like lake that has monster bass in it, our club tournament there 2 years ago yeild a 32 pound bag which for only two days, doesn't seem like a lot, but we had never fished this lake before, so bigger bags are well within reach in this lake).
Don't forget the great rivers we have besides the Hudson, like the St. Lawrence (you can make a side trip to Montreal) and the great Niagara River (you can make a side trip to Toronto or Niagara Falls!)
As you see, this is a state for the angler and for the family as well, with so much to offer it should be fairly easy to convince the family for a New York family/fishing vacation. This are the reasons we love our state.
Come!! visit and fish with us.
I LOVE NY
