Some thoughts on Chine Walking

After reading a lot about the subject of chine walking, I have come to several conclusions; first, chine walking isn't all bad, if it's controllable, because it means your hull is performing at the edge of it's performance range. That being said, the real question would be how to make it very controllable. It seems to me that a number of things will affect this, such as weight distribution, jackplate height, size of the motor, set-up, etc. I talked to a good friend of mine who is into drag boats, and he knows lots about setting up a boat for speed. According to him, chine walk is basically a product of over trimming due to lack of power. So, if you can hang enough motor on the boat so that you don't have to overtrim, then it makes sense to me that the chine walking issue would not appear. Any opinions?
