Spray Painting the Skeg

Got a few small scrapes on the skeg from the low water at the ramp when the boat settled on the trailer. I have some black mercury spray paint but it says to use a primer on it. These aren't real big scrapes and they didn't have the primer when I was there so think it will work ok if I just touch her up with the black spray paint?
